Clay for Kids - Hand building Class
April 17 - May 22nd - OPEN
Thursdays 4:00 - 5:30 PM
6 weeks / $180 per child
$10 material fee per student. This fee includes all material and firing costs.
Taught by local ceramist Ruby Jackson
This 6-week hand building class is designed for children ages 7-10 who are interested in exploring ceramics. Students will be introduced to working with clay through various handbuilding techniques and processes. Through playful material exploration we will create functional ceramics and sculptural artworks.
Ruby Jackson is an artist living and working in Chatham, NY. Jackson works between mediums but has a focus on papermaking and ceramics. She holds an MFA from Rutgers University and a BA from Bard College. Jackson has worked for many years as an art educator, with 11+ years of experience working with children and 3+ years working with adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities. She is the Founder of Sideways Studio, an experimental children's arts education program in the area.

Beginner Wheel Class
March 21 - April 25 - OPEN
Fridays 9:30 AM - noon
6 weeks / $330
includes $25 firing fee and 6 hrs of open studio time ​
(no wheel experience required)
Taught by local potter Meryl Freeman
Learn how to use a potters wheel to basic functional ware like cups, bowls and vases
You'll work with our instructor to learn different trimming and glazing techniques.
All of the work will be fired in our kilns and are food and dishwasher safe.

Beginner Hand building Class
March 20th - April 24th - OPEN

Taught by Sarah Mijares Fick
This Six-week hand building course is designed for anyone interested in creating
functional and/or non-functional ceramics. All levels welcomed.
We will go over the different hand building techniques, including coiling, pinching,
and slab building. Students will have the creative freedom to craft projects
of their choice while receiving group and individual instruction.
Students will also learn different decoration and glazing techniques.
The course includes 6 hours of open studio time to work independently on projects of their own

Sarah Mijares Fick is a Hudson Valley artist. She has been working with clay since 2011 and has honed her craft under the guidance of master ceramists in the U.S., South Korea, and Morocco. Her work has been exhibited in New York and featured in publications such as The Wall Street Journal and Architectural Digest Italia.
Additional Class Information:
All classes include a $25 of firing fee (about 4-5 mug size pieces), after that
the member fee of .05 sq/in is charged

Wheel classes sell out and are limited to 8 people.

Private Classes
Available upon request are an easy way to quickly immerse yourself in working with all aspects of clay. Our classes include a demonstration and a lot of individual attention, either on the wheel throwing or hand building. The classes are 1 1/2 hrs and include all materials. For additional fee, you can choose a glaze and will fire finished work to be picked up 4-5 weeks after.
1 person $75 / 2 people $125
Parties and Events
For groups of 3-8 people. Guests learn to handbuild, while taking turns learning the basics of wheel throwing (centering, opening, pulling). For additional fee, you can choose a glaze and we will fire finished
work to be picked up 4-5 weeks after.
